Mindfulness and Relaxation
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the act of being present, in the moment. You don't have to sit cross-legged on a cushion to do this. You can do it many times during the day in small and simple ways.
Being mindful can help you stop predicting the future, catastrophising, mind-reading - all of which can lead to anxiety and stress.
Being mindful can help you look at what is true, calm your mind and help you manage anxiety and stress which can then help you manage change and improvement in your life.

Relaxation
It's really important that we learn to relax. This doesn't always mean plonking down in front of the TV and zoning out or scrolling through Tik Tok or Instagram. It might mean focussing on a hobby we enjoy, reading a book, just enjoying a quiet moment with a coffee and gazing out the window or just sitting in the chair with our eyes closed for 5 minutes.
When we rest our minds and body we can then come back with more energy and be more productive, we can sometimes get inspirational moments when we relax. Relaxing gives us feel-good hormones that make us feel happier but also affect how we look. You are less stressed so you are a better person to be around.

Try this Mindful Moment
Just stop what you are doing and close your eyes. Take a couple of deep breaths, slow it right down, and just focus on your breath, how it goes in and out, how your chest and stomach rise and fall, what it feels like in your body.
If your mind starts wandering, just pull it back. It's common and takes practice to focus for any length of time.
Now listen carefully - what can you hear around you - a clock, the heating clicking, cars going by, the wind, children. Really focus on the sounds.
When you need to you can stop and go about your day.
